$144,000 Paid to Family of Inmate Who Starved to Death

Salt Lake County in Iowa has agreed to pay $144,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died of starvation in a Salt Lake Country jail in early 2011. Over a period of four months, the man lost almost 100 pounds while imprisoned, according to jail records, and the medical examiner ruled he died by starvation and dehydration.
