Salt Lake County in Iowa has agreed to pay $144,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died of starvation in a Salt Lake Country jail in early 2011. Over a period of four months, the man lost almost 100 pounds while imprisoned, according to jail records, and the medical examiner ruled he died by starvation and dehydration. Since his death, the prison has altered its policies to allow force feeding for inmates.  Nate Carlisle, The Salt Lake Tribune
